Global village visit going to cost money.

Dubai’s popular Global Village which is part of the Dubai Shopping festival will have to be paid for entry from now onwards.

The fee will be Dirhams three per person and there will be a group ticket priced at Dh15 for a family of six. Global village is hugely popular and on most days it will be heavily packed with visitors. This year, the Global Village will be also open for an extended period of 129 days until March 3, 2006.

However, those who visit can find solace that although they have to pay, they will also have a chance to win Dh10,000 in vouchers in a weekly draw for shopping in the Global Village.

Ski Dubai will be ready in about a month.

It’s not only the tallest building that’s taking shape in Dubai. It’s also skiing that will be soon realized in this great Middle Eastern city. As part of the Mall of the Emirates, a large three football court sized ski slope is being made ready. This is a ski dome that is being built as part of the mall.

Dubai is very hot in the summer. It will be a welcome change to go skiing while its burning hot outside. We are likely to see the skiing open within a month according to news reports.

Gitex IT exhibition is starting in Dubai today.

25th Gitex exhibition (Gulf Information Technology Exhibition) is starting today in Dubai. Exhibition is one of the top IT exhibitions in the world.

Gitex will run from September 25 to 29 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Timings for this event are 10 AM to 7 PM. Except for the first day when it is from 1 PM – 7 PM. More than 1000 exhibitors are participating this year. More than 120,000 people are expected to visit the exhibition this year.

Alongside the Gitex a separate section called computer shopper will be held between September 24 - 30 Sept 2005 at the Airport Expo Dubai which is meant only for the retail sales of computers, accessories and many other related items.

Timings for the shopper event are from 11 am to 9 pm all days except Friday (3 pm to 9 pm).  Through the GITEX Shopper, you can discover the latest designs and new technologies affecting specific products. GITEX Shopper offers value for money with many offers and reductions. Prizes, raffles, easy payment facilities, credit card promotions and instant cash are also its many attractions.

Gitex has grown over the years and most of the major IT firms exhibit new technology and products each year in this exhibition visited by many thousands of people from the region and worldwide.

ETISALAT slashes broadband Internet prices.

Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (ETISALAT) announces high-speed Internet price cuts. The cuts of up to 46% for the Al Shamil Internet have been announced. This will bring down the prices of broad band connections to a more affordable level.

With the Internet usage surging ahead and the number of tools on the Internet and the entertainment avenues increasing, this price cut will be very attractive to those who already use it and for others who rely on dial-up connections currently.

Al Shamil Internet, the way these high-speed connections are called by ETISALAT, offer much higher performance for web page views, downloads, and can provide a permanent connection eliminating the need to reconnect.

In the movie, there is a portrayal of an Olympic shooter from Dubai as a hired assassin of a Mafia landlord; however the shooter misses the target and is then ridiculed.

Movie has become popular in the UAE and Shaikh Ahmad Mohammad Hasher Al Maktoum, the UAE’s first ever gold medalist in Olympics, has called upon the Ministry of information and Culture to intervene and to stop the screening of the movie. He rightly thinks how can an Olympic gold medalist be portrayed in such a manner? He says it is an insult to him and his country!

Burj Dubai Tower Rising Fast.

Today, Burj Dubai tower – the one set to conquer world’s towers has reportedly reached its fifth storey and work is set to add one floor every week.
   

Prime tourist attraction for the future, tower construction is not yet very visible from Dubai’s sheikh Zayed road express way which passes adjacent the site. Soon we can hope to see it rising day by day while looking at it from outside the construction zone.
